Acer Chromebook 14 for Work: 'Fastest Chromebook' taps corporate demand

Acer introduced its latest Chromebook on Thursday, the Acer Chromebook 14 for Work. It's the first model to comply with Google's Chrome for Work program and a feature set that the company hopes will appeal to enterprise, government, business, and institutional users.

The Chromebook 14 for Work is the first Chromebook to have Intel's sixth-generation Core processors known as Skylake. This makes it the "fastest Chromebook in the market," according to The Verge. Aside from performance improvement, the new notebook is also said to have up to 10 to 12 hours of battery life.

Meanwhile, a spill-resistant keyboard and MIL-STD 810G military-grade durability aims to boost reliability among its corporate customers. The MIL-STD 810G military-grade standard is measured through rigorous testing in eight parameters: vibration, high temperature, low temperature, humidity, rain, sand, dust, and a drop from 48 inches (122 cm) height. Acer also claims that the Chromebook 14 for Work can also withstand up to 132 lbs (60 kg).

The addition of Vibrant Corning Gorilla Glass functions both as a durable scratch-resistant lid and a marketing tool as it can be customized to have company logos and other graphics printed on it. Meanwhile, a USB 3.0 Type-C port facilitates transfer of data, audio, and video of up to 5 Gbps and can also connect to an optional docking station with additional ports. Its Trusted Platform Module chip encrypts files and is especially useful for securing sensitive and confidential information.

"Our commercial customers have an abundance of reasons to choose the new Acer Chromebook 14 for Work," said Jerry Hou, general manager, Commercial & Detachable Notebooks, IT Products Business, Acer. "Its first-rate performance and robust design provides businesses with a powerful and flexible product that delivers topnotch reliability and reduced total cost of ownership. In addition, the Chromebook 14 for Work can be efficiently deployed and managed, while maintaining excellent security for its employees."

Acer's Chromebook 14 for Work will be available in several models starting at $349 in the United States and €249 in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The new notebook will start selling in May through Acer authorized resellers.
