NBA Cleveland Cavaliers News: LeBron James Admits Chasing Michael Jordan Legacy, Told to Stop Running After 'A Ghost'

"My motivation, is this ghost I'm chasing. The ghost played in Chicago," thus goes the statement LeBron James made to describe his aim in his career.

The lines are remarkable since it marked the first time LeBron vocally admits chasing after the Michael Jordan legacy.

LeBron said during an interview with Sports Illustrated that he understands that there is a difference in his career with that of Jordan's. He also added that he grew up looking how His Airness dominated the NBA in an unbelievable fashion and dreamt to be someday in a position to be one of the great basketball players as well. Then, LeBron added that it is also extraordinary if he can take the position to be the greatest player, if given a chance.

To recall, the Jordan – James comparison started early during LeBron's arrival in the league when he immediately displayed proficient scoring and leadership capability. The debate resonates after LeBron's Cleveland Cavaliers made a successful comeback from a 3-1 standing in the finals against the Golden State Warriors. The recent finals marked a historical feat since nobody in the NBA's long biography was able to erase such an underdog position in any best-of-seven series.

Comparably, both James and Jordan made six appearances in the finals. James played with the Cavs and Miami Heat and was able to translate three of these finals into championships. Jordan, on the other hand, played all six finals with the Chicago Bulls and was unbeaten with six-of-six championships.

Meanwhile, Jordan's former team mate B.J. Armstrong advised LeBron not to chase His Airness' ghost and emphasized that it is impossible for him to do so since their circumstances are different. Armstrong also added that Lebron should rid the mentality of comparisons but take charge of every situation in front of him instead.

Armstrong also said that Michael Jordan was soon to realize that comparison to those who have played before him doesn't help so that was the first fix he did. He also recalled that Jordan gets upset whenever he is compared to somebody else. The same case applies to those that played before him, those he had played with, and players that are to come.

He also played with Jordan when the legend was on the pinnacle of his game and together with other Bulls helped cement the so called Jordan era. He also witnessed Jordan dissect NBA piece by piece and take the fans in a storm, something that was never done before.
