Who Is Mike Pence? His Stance on Abortion, Immigration Reform, Gun Rights and What He Has In Common With Donald Trump

Republicans may now be scrambling to find a suitable candidate for the Gubernatorial Race in Indiana now that Governor Mike Pence may be out of the running. Talks are rife that Republican presumptive nominee Donald Trump has chosen Indiana Governor Mike Pence as his running mate. Although Trump has said that he is postponing his official announcement in light of the recent tragedy in Nice, France, Pence is already in New York- further fueling the rumors that indeed Pence is "It."

After commenting about Donald Trump's call to ban Muslims from entering the United States as "offensive and unconstitutional" and now running as Trump's vice president, Pence is making a lot of people wonder—how is this relationship going to work? How will the two men work together considering the differences in opinion over some key issues?

But are they really that different?

Conservative to the Core

While the LGBT community pursues their fight towards redefining marriage, the assumed Republican VP's Evangelical Christian roots come into play—traditional marriage is between man and woman only.

Governor Pence's Religious Freedom Bill of 2012 drew him a lot of negative attention from the LGBT community. The Bill gave the business owners of Indiana the protection from getting sued if they didn't want to do business with couples who wanted to have a same-sex marriage because of their religious beliefs. Pence has since amended the law, saying that the bill is not to be used to discriminate against the LGBTs.

Indiana also has strict laws against abortion—a fetus with disability cannot be aborted. The governor has also voted in favor of not including abortion in the federal health coverage.

Gun control is another issue that is close to Mike Pence's heart. He has openly supported the Second Amendment. In fact, the Hoosier State has always defended the right to bear arms.

Tricky Issues on Trade

Governor Pence has always been vocal about giving his full support to trade partnerships and free trade. He has promoted and pushed for the Trans-Pacific Partnership and trade agreements with other countries—an economic stand that might put him head to head against Donald Trump.

One with Trump on Immigration

Another issue that makes Pence a suitable vice president for Trump is his stance on immigration.

He may have reacted negatively to Trump's call to ban Muslims, but he shares the same views about illegal immigration and increasing border security. He is also in favor of ending the Birthright Citizenship, thereby ending the anchor baby phenomenon.

Republicans like Mike Pence. The question now is that if his partnership with Donald Trump translate to support for the latter.
