'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' Season 5: Squad to Team Up with Space Counterpart

Coulson's (Clark Gregg) squad will team up with their space equivalent in the upcoming season of Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."

Spoilers for the new installment reveal that S.H.I.E.L.D. is all set for a space adventure, where they will meet the members of Sentient World Observation and Response Department (S.W.O.R.D.). The intergalactic mission was teased in the final moments of the last finale.

Coulson was shown standing on the bridge of a ship, looking at a sea of rocks littered in space. It has been speculated that he would not be the only one to travel outside the planet. Coulson's subordinates will also get their share of interstellar experience.

S.W.O.R.D. is said to be an intelligence and counter terrorism agency in charge of handling extraterrestrial threats. Fans are looking forward to seeing the combined forces fighting against alien enemies. After AIDA and the Life Model Decoys, viewers have been wondering about the types of foes S.H.I.E.L.D. would face in season 5. Last season's AIs were a frightening menace to the team, as AIDA's Framework sent them to an alternate world where she was in full control.

For instance, Daisy's (Chloe Bennet) life in the other reality was bittersweet. She and Ward (Brett Dalton) were still together, as if he never betrayed her and the team by siding with the Hydra. When she eventually got out of the Framework, Daisy had to realize that everything was fake. Meanwhile, Ming-Na Wen, who plays Agent May, has previously teased that the premiere is something to look forward to. According to her, it is full of action and quite impressive.

It has been previously revealed that there would be a time jump when season 5 starts. Coulson and the others must have already readjusted to their old life after the traumatic experience at the Framework. The showrunners have refused to tell more about the said jump, but speculations are rife that it would cover several months.

Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." season 5 will air midseason 2018.
