As the president defended the presence of classified documents from his time as vice president in the garage of his Wilmington, Delaware, residence, he talked about how boxes containing such documents were moved to “make room for the Corvette” that he owned.

Noting that his Corvette was “being worked on” so it could appear on comedian Jay Leno’s show, Biden described how “there was a kid who used to help me take care of my Corvette” who “pulled it in and out to, you know, work on the carburetor, you know, whatever, get it up to the Chevrolet dealer.”

“There was a lot of stuff going in and out, I don’t remember where the boxes came or where they came from,” he said as he insisted that the presence of classified documents in the garage was an innocent mistake. When asked if he remembered if the documents first arrived in the garage when “the Corvette was coming back after the 'Jay Leno show' and if the Corvette returned to the garage after the show was over, Biden responded, “it was in and out for a bunch of reasons.”

Telling the team of investigators working for the Special Counsel how he “wanted to drive it,” the president lamented that he was told that he “couldn’t drive it outside the driveway.” He talked about how in the past, he would get the Corvette “to the bottom of the driveway” and “tack it up to about four grand.” At this point, the transcript noted that Biden’s remarks became “indiscernible” and included the words “makes car sound” in parentheses.

After the president characterized “one of the best parts to being vice president and president” as getting to drive electric cars, he told the Special Counsel’s team about a Ford Bronco that has what one of the lawyers described as “instant torque.” While Hur informed Biden that he would “love to hear much more about this” and expressed a desire to ask more questions pertaining to the investigation, Biden remained undeterred.

“You can take 30 seconds, but you put your foot on the brake, you hit, you hit a button that’s in the — and it says ‘launch,’” Biden added. “You step your foot on the accelerator all the way down — until it gets to about 6, 7 grand. Then all of a sudden, it will say ‘launch.’”

After stressing that “all you do is take the foot off the brake,” the words “makes car sound” appeared in parentheses once again.
