New York Yankees vs Detroit Tigers is the big MLB game on Friday afternoon. This could be an explosive encounter between two of the best teams in the league, and will be the first time the two teams have met since the 2012 AL Championship Series. The game can be watched online through live stream (details below).

The Tigers have commenced the new season with high expectations and hopes for the coming year. They made numerous close-season changes in personnel to strengthen their roster, and improve upon the strong team they already had last season.

Torri Hunter has come into the team and is fulfilling his new role in right field. He started the season off well with four hits in the team's opening series against Minnesota, but will still want to get that first home run on the board.

Meanwhile, Fister gets the home opening start for the Tigers. He has made four regular-season starts against the Yankees, going 1-2 with a 5.18 ERA.

He is 1-1 with a 3.94 ERA in the three times he has faced the team in the post season.

The Yankees will be in better spirits now having claimed their first win of the season on Thursday night against the Red Sox. New York lost their opening two games against Boston but finally gained the win with Andy Pettitte featuring for eight innings in the 4-2 victory.

However, the Yankees are set to struggle early on this season, having been crippled by injuries.

The starting lineup has been plagued with misfortune as Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Mark Teixeira and Curtis Granderson all find themselves on the sidelines.

For today's game Ivan Nova will get the start for New York. Last season he started 28 games, going 12-8 with a 5.02 ERA. Last season against Detroit, Nova posted a 10.97 ERA in two games, giving up 22 hits in the process.

New York Yankees vs Detroit Tigers starts at 1.07 p.m. ET and can be watched online through live stream by clicking here.
