Person of Interest Season 4 Release Date, Spoilers: Artificial Intelligence System Revealed, New Characters Introduced

"Person of Interest" executive producer Greg Plageman and star Jim Caviezel were at the show's panel in last month's Comic-Con in San Diego to discuss the upcoming season, according to reports.

The show runner revealed that while the first three seasons of the show were all about Orwellian surveillance state, season 4 will be about artificial intelligence.

"It's about what we perceive to be the biggest existential risk since the Manhattan Project," said Plageman. "It's about a war between two artificial intelligences."

Finch and his team will also be facing a new threat. Though they will still be helping the "number" of the week, the whole focus won't be entirely spent on that, but the team will do its best to bring down Samaritan, which is the government's new surveillance system. Plageman said that it will be hard to do that, since this season will see the team hidden under new aliases, professions and lives. Though Samaritan is said to be powerful, it won't be able to see them because of a bug put into the system.

Meanwhile, new cast members will be introduced in the new season of "Person of Interest." Monique Curnan will be joining the show and so will Carla Buono, according to TV Line.

In an interview with TV Guide, Plageman said that Buono's character will have ties with Samaritan as its defender who sets out to eliminate those who know about the existence of the system, while Curnan will be playing the role of new police captain Captain Felicia Moreno of the New York Police Department 8th Precinct.

"Person of Interest" Season 4 will premiere on Tuesday, Sept. 23 on CBS.
