'Tokyo Ghoul' Season 3 Release Date News: Fans Want A Reboot, Not A New Season; FUNimation Head Confirms Third Season

Over the past few months, the online community has been bombarded with rants from fans who are complaining about how the entertainment company, FUNimation, handled the anime version of the hit manga series by Sui Ishida, "Tokyo Ghoul."

Most of the complaints pointed out how the small screen adaptation severely digressed from the original material. The fans are particularly highlighting the significant storylines removed or altered by the TV series. Moreover, there are some critical moments omitted, therefore making it detached from the source.

The changes, as it turns out, are already irreparable. It would be impossible for them to return to the manga storyline, according to a Tokyo Ghoul Wikia forum user.

VineReport.com wrote that some of the avid followers, both from the manga and anime versions, are asking FUNimation to forgo their plans of a brand new season and instead make a reboot of the anime series.

There are still no updates from the entertainment firm as to whether or not it will take the suggestion. According to a report on Moviepilot, what has been confirmed though is the previous statement of FUNimation CEO and President Gen Fukunaga indicating a third season. As revealed, the new season will take on the plot from the 52 chapters of the "Tokyo Ghoul: re" manga. Needless to say, the news brought some concern to the fans who are quite worried that the company will once again cut out some vital plot points of the original story to fit it into one season.

Fukunaga went on to announce that they are currently working on a video game adaptation of the series.

"Ever since we began simulcasting the anime series last year, fans of 'Tokyo Ghoul' have been clamoring for a mobile game. With Season 2 now finished and a Season 3 set for 2016, the anticipation for the game has also grown higher," he said.
