The hiphop artist announced his presidential bid during the MTV Video Awards on August 30 when he came up onstage to receive the Video Vanguard award, the report details.

Donald Trump previously told Rolling Stone that West's intention to run for president is very "interesting." He also wondered who gave the R&B artist the idea to enter the world of politics, the Huffington Post reports.

After West's announcement, people began comparing him to Trump, which the billionaire said he did not "quite get." Nevertheless, he said he looked forward to the opportunity to compete with the famous rapper in that realm.

Trump relayed how West has been telling people that the business mogul is his "all-time hero." Trump, who has been immersed in controversy for releasing inflammatory comments on immigration and women, said he only hits those who hit him. So far, he said he will never say bad things about West because the latter has said "such nice things" about him.

However, Trump warned that his opinion about West may change if the rapper will indeed go through with his presidential bid because they would become rivals by then, the report adds.

"Now, maybe in a few years I will have to run against him, I don't know. So I'll take that back," Donald said.

Despite Kanye West gaining praise from Donald Trump, he and his wife Kim Kardashian seem to be rooting for Democratic presidential runner Hillary Clinton.
