'Hannibal' Season 3 Release Date, Plot Spoilers: New Character Teased By Writer

Season 3 of the hit psychological thriller series "Hannibal" is ready to kick off its premiere episode and fans are hankering for more details on what to expect when the show returns. Here's what we heard so far.

A new Red Dragon character will be making its debut when the program returns to the small screens, according to a report by Enstarz.com. Series writer Helen Shang even went to tease the fans that she is currently penning Francis Dolarhyde's schemes.

"It's almost 3 AM, so this is a great time to be writing some Francis Dolarhyde scenes," Shang's tweet reads early Sunday morning.

As stated by the media outlet, not much has been known on who will play the serial killer. However, "The Tooth Fairy" is said to play a significant role in the NBC show.

For starters, Dolarhyde is the primary antagonist on Thomas Harris' 1981 novel. Often called as "The Great Red Dragon," Dolarhyde is a killer who murders entire families. He has a tendency to bite off his victim's bodies, consequently leaving traces of his teeth's uncommon size and sharpness.

The character has been adapted twice for film, first by Tom Noonan in 1986's "Manhunter" and by Ralph Fiennes in 2002's "Red Dragon."

Dolarhyde was also introduced in an off-screen cameo in one of the opening scenes of "Hannibal" Season 1 episode "Aperitif" when Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) was reconstructing the crime scene in a house.

Creator Bryan Fuller went on to confirm in an interview with Assignment X where he said that it was Dolarhyde's "early kill."

"Hannibal" Season 3 premieres in 2015 on NBC.
