iOS 10.2 Jailbreak Tool by Luca Todesco Underway?

Some recent tweets from Italian hacker Luca Todesco might be hinting at a looming release of an iOS 10.2 jailbreak tool.

The possibility of having an iOS 10.2 jailbreak tool was sparked by the hacker's recent social media posts addressing the current challenges in using the iOS 10.1.1 jailbreak, dubbed as Yalu, that was released late last year.

Yalu is categorized as a semi-untethered jailbreak tool. A tethered type requires owners to connect their mobile devices to a computer after a reboot. Only then can they re-run the tool and subsequently re-install Cydia. On the other hand, an untethered jailbreak kind would still require re-installing Cydia but it can be accomplished without the need of plugging the iPhone to a desktop.

Being a semi-untethered jailbreak tool, Yalu has a little bit of both. The tool still has to be re-run and Cydia still needs to be re-installed after a reboot. However, this can be done via browser – no desktop needed.

However, the convenience that Yalu has is only good for seven days. After such time, all the processes of applying the iOS 10.1.1 jailbreak tool will have to be repeated. Luckily, Forbes spotted Todesco saying that this might be resolved once iOS 10.3 goes live.

Forbes speculates that Todesco spotted a bug in the iOS 10.3 beta that can be exploited so his browser-based JailBreakMe tool (jbme102) can perfectly work. So it is possible that Todesco is just waiting for the release of iOS 10.3 to see if the exploit entry still exists before launching the iOS 10.2 jailbreak tool.

So far, Todesco has been successful in breaking the supposedly unbreakable iOS 10. Jailbreak fans know that the Chinese hacker group Pangu used to dominate the exploit scene of iOS. However, since the release of iOS 10 last year, the said team remains unusually quiet.

As of January, Yalu is compatible with iPhone SE, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPad Pro, iPhone 7, and iPhone 7 Plus. These devices should be running with iOS 10.0.1, iOS 10.0.2, iOS 10.0.3, iOS 10.1, and iOS 10.1.1 for the installment to be successful.
