'Modern Family' Season 9 Episode 2 Spoilers: Phil and Claire Discover Alex's Secret

Phil (Ty Burrell) and Claire (Julie Bowen) will visit their daughter in college in the upcoming episode of "Modern Family."

The synopsis (according to Spoilers Guide) for the episode titled "The Long Goodbye" revealed that Alex (Ariel Winter) will surprise her parents with how self-sufficient she is in college. When the Dunphy child decided to live in the dormitory, her parents were understandably concerned. As much as they want Alex to be independent, the prospect of letting her live so far away from them scared them. All of their children rely on them so much at home and Alex is no different

The short visit will show Phil and Claire, though, that there is nothing to be worried about. Alex looks sure of herself, and it is not difficult to see that she is handling freedom well. It looks like the teen has been keeping this side of her from her parents. Are there any other secrets that Alex is keeping?

Meanwhile, Manny (Rico Rodriguez) is going off to college. His parents have decided that he would live in the dorm, just like Alex. Although scared of his new adventure, Manny will try to avoid crying in front of Gloria (Sofia Vergara) and Jay (Ed O'Neill).

Elsewhere, Haley (Sarah Hyland) will experience the life of the rich when she befriends a female member of the country club. The promo photos showed her lounging beside the pool and sipping champagne while the rest of her co-workers were busy doing their tasks. Had she known, she would have befriended the woman earlier. Haley can only hope that her boss will not catch her slacking off on the job.

As for Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson), spoilers revealed that he will face some problems in the renovations. Nothing seems to be working for him. In the previous episode, he also encountered a former flame that he wished he never saw again.

"Modern Family" season 9 will air on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 9 p.m. EDT on ABC.
