3. Joe Kent says he heard 'God’s voice' when he resigned

Kent, who is reportedly under investigation by the FBI for allegedly leaking classified information, said during the gala that his decision last week to resign as National Counterterrorism Center director was not one he made lightly, adding that he had been thinking about it “for quite some time.”

“But having faith, I think I was able to hear God’s voice,” Kent, who has expressed opposition to the war in Iran, said. “I was able to hear that I was exactly where I was supposed to be, and it was my time to actually take action, which made taking the action incredibly easy, actually. It actually made me feel very liberated, and like I’m in the right spot.”

Kent has accused Israel of deceiving President Donald Trump and influencing U.S. foreign policy.

“Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby,” he wrote in his resignation letter to the president.

The former U.S. Army warrant officer and former Central Intelligence Agency paramilitary officer said he supported the foreign policy platform Trump campaigned on in 2016, 2020 and 2024, as well as during his first presidential term.

Kent claimed that Trump had been deceived by and subjected to an Israeli “misinformation campaign that wholly undermined your America First platform and sowed pro-war sentiments to encourage a war with Iran.”

He also blamed the Iraq War on what he described as false Israeli intelligence and claimed his late wife, Shannon Kent, was killed “in a war manufactured by Israel.” Shannon Kent, a U.S. Navy cryptologic technician, was killed by a suicide bomber during the Syrian Civil War in 2019.

In response to the news of Kent’s resignation, Trump said Kent “was a nice guy,” but added, “I always thought he was weak on security; very weak on security.”

“When I read his statement, I realized it’s a good thing that he’s out because he said that Iran was not a threat,” Trump said. “Iran was a threat.”
