Trump held a back-to-school event in the White House Rose Garden on Monday as the 2026–2027 school year begins across the U.S. At the event, he introduced families who have benefited from his policies, including the Trump accounts established for children born between Jan. 1, 2025, and Dec. 31, 2028, that allow tax-free investments, as well as policies that double the withdrawal cap on educational savings accounts.
The president also recalled how “Immediately upon taking office, I signed an executive order to ban critical race theory and to ban transgender ideology from public schools.” He warned schools across the U.S. that “Every public school in America is now on notice that if they tell a child that they’re trapped in the wrong body, they are committing child abuse.”
U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon told the crowd that at Trump’s direction, “We are working hand in hand with the Department of Justice to ensure no school district ever has more power over a child than their own parents.”
“Our administration has cut billions in funding for radical DEI programs and redirected those dollars to teachers, classrooms and results, supporting evidence-based literacy instruction, pouring record funding into charter schools and energizing workforce training," she said.
