3 things Christians should know about ‘Minions & Monsters’

1. ‘Minions’ mixes Hollywood nostalgia, supernatural elements

Set in 1927, the Illumination/Universal film follows two creative Minions, James and Henry, who fall in love with silent movies during Hollywood’s early days. After losing stardom with the arrival of “talkies,” they steal a "book of spells" from a former evil sorcerer employer and use witchcraft to summon monsters for their own film.

A key scene in the movie involves the Minions reading from the Necronomicon, a fictional forbidden book from H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos, to “summon” the tentacled creature Cthulhu.

But when the incantation goes wrong, they get a small, green demon named Goomi who was imprisoned inside the magical spellbook before being “released” to wreak havoc.
