3 things to know about alleged ISIS-inspired terror plot in NYC

2. FBI finds explosive material in Pennsylvania storage unit
In a Tuesday statement, the FBI announced that it had found explosive residue in a Pennsylvania storage unit believed to be connected to the attack outside of the Gracie Mansion in New York City.
“FBI Special Agent Bomb Technicians and the local bomb squads conducted a controlled detonation to ensure the safety of law enforcement and others in the area,” the statement reads. “We’re thankful for the assistance of the FBI Philadelphia Field Office and the local Middletown and Newton agencies, who assisted our office throughout the night.”
According to a Tuesday statement from the Middletown Township Police Department, residents who live near the storage facility on South Flowers Mill Road may have heard several “loud bangs” overnight.
“As part of the ongoing federal investigation that took place yesterday, the FBI safely disposed of explosive materials that were recovered during the execution of search warrants,” the department explained. “These controlled detonations were conducted by trained personnel and were carried out in a controlled manner.”
While the Middletown Township police acknowledged that some may have found the noise “startling,” the department insisted that the public was never in danger.
“The operation at the storage facility has now concluded, and the location has returned to normal operations,” the police department stated. “We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding while federal authorities conducted this investigation.”
