4 highlights from Arizona primaries: Progressive Dem loses; Trump-backed candidates win

After a three-week hiatus, primary elections to determine which candidates will face off in this year’s midterm elections resumed Tuesday with the major political parties selecting nominees for several statewide and federal races in the swing state of Arizona.

Of the seven swing states that determined the outcome of the 2024 presidential election, Arizona supported President Donald Trump by the largest margin: approximately 5.5 percentage points. 

Arizona is home to a competitive gubernatorial election as well as multiple races that could determine control of the U.S. House of Representatives. Trump saw all of his preferred candidates win their respective Republican primaries while progressive Democrats did not experience the same level of success.
