5 findings in DNC's post-election autopsy report: Harris' 'messaging misalignment'
2. National Democrats had a ‘messaging misalignment’
The report adds that Democrats’ obsession with promoting sex-change surgeries wasn't the only issue hurting the party in its attempt to win the 2024 election. A section of the report focusing on “where organizing efforts fell short in 2024” listed “messaging misalignment” as a factor that hurt Democrats in the election.
“National Democratic messaging under the White House’s stewardship, created tensions with key constituencies,” the report stated. “Climate change and green energy transition messaging created anxiety among workers in traditional industries worried about job losses. The focus on social issues over economic issues alienated socially conservative voters who prioritized kitchen-table concerns.”
Concerns about Democrats’ failure to connect with voters loomed large throughout the report, which maintained that the party had “a persistent inability or unwillingness to listen to all voters” and described the American heartland as a region “Democrats tend to ignore.” The report called for “a renewed focus on the voters of Middle America and the South, who have come to believe they are not included in the Democratic vision of a stronger and more dynamic America for everyone.”
“Millions of Americans are suffering from poor access to healthcare, manufacturing and job losses, and a failing infrastructure, yet continue to be persuaded to vote against their best interests because they do not see themselves reflected in the America of the Democratic Party,” the report added.
The document further suggested that Biden was to blame for the Democratic Party's cool reception in the heartland: “Harris wrote off rural America, assuming urban/suburban margins would compensate.”
