7 profound hymns for Holy Week

4. ‘Jesu, Jesu, fill us with Your Love’

A popular song for Maundy Thursday (also called Holy Thursday) services, “Jesu, Jesu, Fill us with Your Love” was written by Tom Colvin, a 20th-century Church of Scotland clergyman who served as a missionary in Ghana.

The hymn references the actions of Jesus washing the feet of His disciples during the Last Supper on the night that he was arrested, and uses a Ghanaian folk tune for its melody.

“Jesus lives to fill our emptiness and want,” explained the site Hymn for the Day. “That is why the hymn for today can be such a comfort. It helps us ask for what we need to fulfill his teachings.”
