'Army Wives' Season 6 Premiere: Recap

Lifetime's hit television season "Army Wives" has premiered its sixth season Sunday after nine months off the air.

The drama series follows four wives of army soldiers, their families, and an army husband whose wife is also in the service.

Sunday's season premiere saw the episode entitled "Winds of War." In it, the women prepared to leave the decommissioned Fort Marshall and tearfully went their separate ways. Roxy, portrayed by Sally Pressman, was especially sad to leave her friends, including Pamela- portrayed by Brigid Brannagh.

Also, Sunday featured characters Claudia Joy (Kim Delany) and Michael (Brian McNamara) who encountered difficult decisions. Then, Denise (Catherine Bell) and Frank (Terry Serpico) aim to throw a party as one of the last family gatherings they will have in a long time.

Last night's viewers of the season premiere voiced their reactions on Twitter.

"Wow great season opener of Army Wives," wrote Wendy on the social media site Sunday. "Can't wait to watch next week."

"Wow!!! Wrote Taylor, adding, "What a great premiere! I'm sooo excited for the rest of the seasons. #ArmyWives."

Not happy with the season premiere episode's conclusion, City Girl wrote, "You can't end the episode this way!!! WHAT ABOUT DENISE?!?!"

Season six's promotional videos include the tagline, "This season one wife won't weather the storm," hinting at either death or divorce in the coming weeks.

The show is based on the non-fiction book by Tanya Biank entitled "Under the Sabers: The Unwritten Code of Army Wives." The South Carolina setting of the show is home to the old Charleston Naval Base as well as the fictional 23rd Airborne Division.

While "Army Wives" is modeled after the book, many characters have differences with the counterparts on the show.

The plot of "Army Wives" normally includes high emotion and many issues about family, marriage, drug abuse, adultery, and the stresses of military service.

The past season of the show concluded in May, leaving many viewers with unanswered questions.

"Army Wives" premiered on June 3, 2007 and marked Lifetime's largest series premiere in its 23-year history. It airs on the network Sundays at 9 p.m. EST.
