'Avatar 2' Release Date & Update: Plot to Follow Comic Book, Stephen Lang to Reprise Role

It has already been six years since the epic science fiction film "Avatar" was released and until now, fans are still waiting for its sequel. Unfortunately, "Avatar 2" isn't coming anytime soon, but it will be, two years from now, assuming schedule will not be changed and everything will go smoothly with the complex method of filming.

But even though it's still far from the release day, reports say that fans may be able to have a preview of the plot of the second movie through the upcoming comic series that will be based on James Cameron's "Avatar" franchise. Entertainment Weekly reported that this announcement was made by the director himself through a video presented during the New York Comic Con panel.

Cameron said that the production team is now working with Dark Horse Comics and together, they will release a graphic novel that will bring fans new adventures from Pandora covering three different time settings.

Yibada also detailed a spoiler report saying that the second movie will have a dark, prison theme. It said that the tone of the movie will be darker as a human-versus-Na'vi war will take place. The main characters, Jake Sully and Neytiri, will also be back to serve their tribe but the question of sticking together is uncertain. The source mentioned that there are rumors going around that the lovers are victims of the war and may have to separate in order to come out stronger.

Another plot detail that has been making its rounds in the news is the return of Stephen Lang as Miles Quaritch. It can be remembered from the first film that Miles was killed. Master Herald noted that there will obviously be some explanation for his survival in the new story. Whatever it is, fans will have to patiently wait to find out how the main antagonist will rise from the grave.

"Avatar 2" is slated to be released on Dec. 25, 2017. The third and fourth sequels are also in production already as they are simultaneously done with the second.
