Beloved Sight & Sound production ‘Ruth’ coming to Wonder Project

Sight & Sound’s beloved biblical production “Ruth” will premiere Aug. 13 on Wonder Project, bringing the story of faith and redemption to streaming audiences as part of the platform’s collection of biblical entertainment.
Originally premiering onstage in 2005, “Ruth” follows the Old Testament figure whose decision to remain with her widowed mother-in-law, Naomi, leads her from tragedy and uncertainty to a new life in Bethlehem. Her faithfulness ultimately places her in the lineage of King David and, according to the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus Christ.
The production is “a celebration of love” and “a remarkable story of second chances,” following an ordinary woman whose faith in God “ignites a chain of events that change the course of history," according to the show description.
The Aug. 13 premiere is part of a new partnership between Wonder Project and Sight & Sound that brings the theater company’s collection of biblical productions to audiences nationwide. The rollout began July 30 and will continue approximately every two weeks throughout the fall on Wonder Project’s subscription service through Prime Video in the United States.
The collection includes filmed versions of “Jesus,” “Ruth,” “Moses,” “Noah — 30th Anniversary,” “Queen Esther,” “David,” “Samson,” “Daniel” and “Miracle of Christmas.” Select productions will also feature behind-the-scenes content, while “The Story of Sight & Sound,” a documentary chronicling the ministry’s origins, will be available on the platform.
Founded in 1976 by Glenn and Shirley Eshelman, family-owned Sight & Sound has spent nearly five decades bringing biblical stories to life through large-scale theatrical productions featuring original music, massive sets, live animals and casts of dozens of performers.
Its theaters in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and Branson, Missouri, welcome nearly 2 million guests annually. In recent years, the organization has expanded beyond live theater into filmmaking and streaming, allowing its biblical productions to reach audiences far beyond its two physical locations.
Sight & Sound President Josh Enck recently told The Christian Post that despite the organization’s expansion into new forms of media, its mission has remained unchanged.
“We try to say no to hundreds of good ideas and yes to the God idea,” Enck said. “Once we know, we don’t look back. We are anti-ego. None of this is about us. It’s about bringing the Bible to life on stage and now on screen and getting out of the way of what God is doing.”
Sight & Sound creative producer Ryan Miller previously told CP that the organization also intentionally incorporates the Gospel into its productions, continuing a priority established by its founder.
“Our founder was a preacher [...] the Gospel message has to be clearly communicated,” Miller said. “We always try and make sure that, yes, the Gospel message is preached, while also trying to inspire and encourage and strengthen people who are already saved.”
Katie Miller, Sight & Sound’s vice president of brand development, said the partnership with Wonder Project provides another avenue to share the Gospel message with families.
“There’s something special about getting to partner with like-minded organizations using their platforms to spread messages of hope to a hope-hungry world,” she said. “We’re grateful for this new partnership and cannot wait to begin bringing these powerful stories to life for Wonder audiences and their families across the country.”
The partnership expands an existing relationship between Sight & Sound and Wonder Project. “A Great Awakening,” Sight & Sound Films’ historical drama centered on evangelist George Whitefield and the religious revival that swept the American colonies, is already streaming on the platform and has been among its top-performing titles.
“Ruth” premieres Aug. 13 on Wonder Project’s subscription service through Prime Video in the U.S., with additional Sight & Sound productions scheduled to debut approximately every two weeks through the fall.
