'Big Bang Theory' Season 9 Spoilers: Amy And Sheldon Soon To Wed?

To some fans' delight and some's dismay, Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik) and Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) finally did it in the Season 9 episode, "The Opening Night Excitation."

Now that the couple has taken their relationship to the next level, could an engagement be the next step for the two?

Entertainment Tonight caught up with the "Big Bang Theory" cast and the show's boss, Steve Molaro, on the "Big Bang" set. When asked about a potential engagement between Amy and Sheldon, Bialik answered, "Clearly, Amy didn't need a ring to get into the sack!" before bursting into a fit of giggles.

Parsons chimed in: "That's true. You know, you don't buy the cow, when the milk is for free."

But Parsons did admit that when it comes to his character, he never says "never," which means that another wedding could take place on the show in future seasons.

When pressed for an answer, Parsons relented, saying, "I would say no, but I didn't think that we'd be filming what we're filming now," referring to Amy and Sheldon's bedroom shenanigans. "So what do I know?" he conceded. The actor added: "[Amy and Sheldon] may have a child next week. I have no idea!"

What fans do know for sure is that Amy and Sheldon's on-again off-again relationship is now more solid than before. According to "Big Bang Theory" showrunner Molaro, having sex for the first time was "a huge step" for the characters. However, the executive producer added, the two "are still very much Sheldon and Amy." Molaro also said that he doesn't expect any major changes to occur in the couple's relationship post-coitus.

As for the possibility of the Cooper family engagement ring popping up anytime soon, he answered, "At some point in the near future, it will come up again." He added, "It's not going to immediately, but we certainly have not forgotten about it."

"Big Bang Theory" returns to continue its Season 9 on Jan. 7 on CBS.
