Cyanogen-OnePlus One Partnership Finished, Android Developer Looking for Better Chinese Companies

The partnership of Cyanogen and OnePlus began last year with the announcement of the OnePlus One Android "flagship killer".

Unfortunately, OnePlus' sales plan did not work quite well as it frustrated consumers more instead of keeping them interested. As for Cyanogen, the Android developer has also been looking to expand its market when it completed a deal with Micromax in India.

However, that deal directly opposed OnePlus' plans to penetrate India late last year.

In spite the difficulties that have arisen between the two companies, Cyanogen still came up with its latest and final CyanogenMod 12s update for the OnePlus One.

But now, Cyanogen CEO Steve Kondik may have officially severed the ties between the two startups.

In a report by Android Authority, Kondik stated that the two companies had different goals, which just did not work together.

"That's probably the last you will see from that partnership. ... Two new companies are trying to do crazy stuff, a lot of people collide," said Kondik.

Meanwhile, the report mentioned that Cyanogen could be working soon with Chinese brands that sell better and quicker than OnePlus' handsets.

"OnePlus shipped reasonable volume, but nothing compared to what some of these other partners can ship … we are working with partners that can scale much quicker," said Cyanogen's Kirt McMaster.
