Debra Messing and Daniel Zelman Separate

Debra Messing’s representative has announced that the star and husband Daniel Zelman have separated.

Messing’s rep gave the following statement: “Debra Messing and Daniel Zelman privately separated earlier this year after 10 years of marriage. The decision was mutual, and they remain supportive of one another and committed to raising their son as a family.”

The couple met while at New York University and was married in 2002. Messing told Entertainment Weekly in 2002, “He (Zelman) was different from anyone I’d been interested in before. I couldn’t stop wondering about him.”

Messing made her television debut with a small role on “NYPD Blue” and followed that with “A Walk In the Woods” with Keanu Reeves. She returned to TV with appearances on “Seinfeld” and other shows before landing the title role on NBC’s “Will & Grace.”

The show ran from 1998-2006 and brought Messing several awards including the 2001 TV Guide Award for Best Actress, and in 2003, an Emmy win. After “Will & Grace,” Messing signed on for “The Starter Wife,” which only aired for 10 episodes.

Husband Daniel Zelman has appeared on “Law & Order,” “Ned and Stacey,” and other sitcoms but is more well known for his writing. He has written several episodes of hit series “Damages” and is named as an executive producer for the series.

The couple has one son, Roman Walker, who was born in 2004.
