Texas state school board member calls for investigation after drag performer hired as assistant principal
A Texas school board official is calling for an investigation into a newly-named Dallas-area school administrator who also reportedly moonlights as a drag performer.
On June 16, Arlington Independent School District (AISD), announced Rylee Russell-Bruton as an assistant principal at Joey Rodriguez Junior High School. The announcement, which was posted on the AISD website and social media channels, praised Russell-Bruton’s “rich background in student support, social studies education, and campus culture development” as factors in the district’s decision.
Within days of the announcement, public social media posts, first identified by The Dallas Express, referred to Russell-Bruton as a drag performer under the name “Fauxbia,” including several posts indicating that Russell-Bruton participated in public drag events.
A drag performer using the name “Fauxbia” with facial features resembling Russell-Bruton is featured on a wiki page for the drag show program “The Queer Off” from 2019.
While Russell-Bruton is identified by name in multiple social media posts announcing various drag performances, there was no indication she was involved in any such events with children in attendance.
Following the report, State Board of Education member Brandon Hall, R-District 11, called for an official investigation into Russell-Bruton's hiring.
In a June 20 post, Hall shared a link to the Dallas Express report and wrote: “Children are worth protecting. It's time to stand up.”
The Christian Post has reached out to Hall for comment. This story will be updated if a response is received.
A CP review of the AISD website found Russell-Bruton was not listed as an assistant principal at Rodriguez Junior High. Principal Jerod Zahn and Secretary Susan Lofton were the only two administrators named on the website.
AISD did not immediately respond to a CP request for comment Friday. The district’s announcement of Russell-Bruton’s hiring was active on the AISD website as of Friday afternoon, however.
In a 2019 interview, a drag performer believed to be Russell-Bruton using the name “Fauxbia St. Stone” identified as “biologically female” and described being a drag performer as a “fantasy” come true.
“Drag is the expression of gender, and for me, nothing on this planet makes me feel more proud to be a woman than when I am in drag, and I get to exaggerate all the feminine parts of myself,” Russell-Burton told Voyage Dallas. “In drag, I can be a parade of femininity, in whatever way that makes sense to me. If it weren’t for drag, I would still be sitting on the couch feeling small and craving something more. Instead, I get to feel inspired, significant, and proud.”
The performer told the outlet that audience members attending one of the drag performances “can expect to see all kinds of foolish behavior from my shows, ranging from performances mocking obsessive girlfriends to performances mocking the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.”
