Chapters 522 and 523 of the "Fairy Tail" manga have proven to be quite eventful and they are teasing that even bigger, potentially more monumental events are coming soon, now that an immensely powerful character has re-entered the picture.
That character is none other than The Black Dragon himself, Acnologia.
Acnologia returned in his human form this time around, and his appearance is sudden and unexpected. His arrival is so surprising that he manages to catch the injured Erza and Wendy off guard.

What remains unclear, however, is the exact reason for Acnologia's return.
Over on Reddit, fans are speculating that Acnologia showed up near Erza and Wendy for a reason, and that may be because he is looking to fight them.
With Erza already nursing several severe injuries, fans are predicting that Wendy may have to be the one who steps up to the plate to face Acnologia.
Though Wendy herself is no slouch and has certainly grown to become a powerful Wizard, it doesn't seem as though she alone may be enough to match up competently against Acnologia.
Acnologia certainly seems more than capable of taking out both Wendy and an injured Erza in battle pretty easily.
Still, it would be shocking for Acnologia to suddenly come in and kill two of "Fairy Tail's" most established characters, which makes that seem unlikely.
Then again, an appearance from Acnologia is a remarkable event and it's likely one that will not grow irrelevant very quickly.
There's likely more to this event than what is being revealed thus far, and as frustrating as it may be more fans, they will have to wait until the next chapters arrive to learn more about why Acnologia has returned and what he is planning to do next.
