Fisherman's Dream: Icy Gust of Wind Flash-Freezes Countless Herring in Norway (PHOTO)
As we see in this photo by Ingolf Kristiansen in Norway, the winter weather continues to fascinate. A shoal of herring were swimming along the surface, possibly to escape a predator, when an icy gust of wind hit the water and dropped it to 18ºF. The water froze instantly and so did the fish.
The top of the bay is now solid ice packed with herring, a scene that birds and whales will be eyeing hungrily as the ice thaws.
