The two leading candidates seeking the Republican nomination for president in 2024 have come to Aldean’s defense in the past week. Former President Donald Trump, the current frontrunner in the race, took to Truth Social Thursday, describing Aldean as a “fantastic guy who just came out with a great new song.” He urged his followers to “support Jason all the way.”

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, currently polling at second place among Republican primary voters in the RealClearPolitics average of polls taken since July 5, shared Aldean’s initial statement reacting to the outrage over his song on Twitter Wednesday and added a comment of his own: “When the media attacks you, you’re doing something right. @Jason_Aldean has nothing to apologize for.”
