'Game of Thrones' Season 5 Release Date News: George R.R. Martin Says Showrunners Are 'Even Bloodier' Than He Is

Celebrated novelist George R.R. Martin appeared at the Writers Guild West Awards event this weekend. Much to the surprise of many fans, it was revealed during the interview that apparently, "Game of Thrones" showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are more vicious than him when it comes to character deaths.

The writer indicated that book readers and TV viewers alike should brace themselves for the upcoming unexpected deaths that will happen in the HBO TV adaptation.

"People are going to die who don't die in the books, so even the book readers will be unhappy. So everybody better be on their toes," Martin said. "David and D.B. (David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, co-creators of 'Game Of Thrones') are even bloodier than I am."

The number of seasons left for the TV fantasy show are still uncertain, though.

"Not really certain yet. This is the fifth season, the sixth season HBO picked up last year. We will have a seventh, eighth or ninth, no one knows," he told Showbiz411. "They only renew one or two seasons at a time. After we do season six, maybe we'll get a renewal for seventh and eighth. That all depends, television is a very changeable medium."

"I have two more books, the one I'm writing right now, 'The Winds Of Winter,' and after that the last book, 'The Dream of Spring,' so those will be the two final books. But we're talking 3000 pages of material. How many seasons that translates too? That's up to D.B. And David," Martin added.

"Game of Thrones" is expected to return on air with its brand new Season 5 this April 12, 2015.
