How Did Satan Become God's Enemy?

Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8

"I will do what I want, not what you want me to do." Have you ever said or thought something like that? Do you know where that sort of thought comes from?

One day Lucifer, God's special angel, had that thought. He decided he wanted to be like God. His thoughts may have been, "I will put my throne above the stars of God. I will be higher than the clouds. I will make myself like God" (Isaiah 14:12-14). Do you hear the words, "I will?" Only God could truly speak with that authority because only God is all-powerful.

What caused Lucifer to turn against his Creator? It was pride. Pride is thinking more highly of yourself than you should. Lucifer thought he was as good as God. His sinful pride separated him from God. When Lucifer rebelled, God had to separate Himself from Lucifer. Lucifer and his angel followers had to leave Heaven. Now Lucifer is known by a different name–Satan or the devil. He is God's enemy, and he is your enemy.

The Bible says, " . . . God opposes [goes against] the proud . . ." (1 Peter 5:5). Don't let pride take control of you and turn you away from God. Remember that God is your Creator. Worship and obey Him only.
