iPhone 5 Release Date: Sprint Eliminating Unlimited Data Plan

Sprint, the iPhone 4S’s newest carrier, is eliminating its unlimited data plan.

Tech website, AndroidCentral reports that Sprint will phase out its unlimited data for mobile broadband and mobile hotspot plans in November 2011.

Devices affected by the change include tablets, netbooks, USB cards, connection cards, and mobile hotspots, and smartphones hosted through the mobile hotspot plan.

According to Sprint, users will have a data cap between 3GB and 10GB. Users will also be charged $0.05 per MB for overage in-network and $0.25 per MB for overage while roaming.

Basic smartphone data plans will remain unlimited and sell for $80 per month.

Sprint updated its smartphone termination fee to $350 and decreased its return window policy from 30 days to 14 days before the release of the iPhone 4S.

Industry experts suggest that the elimination of unlimited data for mobile broadband and mobile hotspot plans occurred so the network could continue powering smartphones under the unlimited data plan.

Sprint reported having its best day of sales on Oct. 14 when the iPhone 4S became available on their network.

Sprint also carries the 8GB iPhone 4, and is the only major United States network that offers an unlimited data plan for smartphones.
