Prominent Democratic strategist James Carville declared that he has no intention of being in the same party as Hasan Piker, a left-wing Twitch streamer and political commentator who has faced backlash for praising communism as the “honorable end goal” of socialism.

“To talk about the larger Democratic Party, post the election in Michigan going forward, I am not going to be in the same party with Hasan Piker,” Carville said during an appearance on the Fox News program “The Sunday Briefing.”

Carville was referring to the Michigan Senate race between Abdul El-Sayed and Rep. Haley Stevens, D-Mich. The strategist added that if Piker becomes a “force” in the Democratic Party, “I’m out of here.”

“I have no intention of ever being in the same political party with that guy. Now, I think that a majority — overwhelming majority of Democrats agree with me, but this idea that we’re going to seize the means of production and this — just go look at the DSA platform,” he said, referring to the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).

In response to Carville’s remarks, Piker’s uncle, "The Young Turks" host Cenk Uygur, wrote in a Monday X post, “Good, that settles it. Get the f— out!”

Uygur said he doesn’t agree with all of his nephew’s points, adding that the two of them have “huge debates,” but he argued that these kinds of discussions happen “in a healthy and large party.”

“[James Carville] is a hypocrite who said we all had to back other Democrats we disagreed with, like Hillary Clinton. But now that his side — filled to the rim with corruption and Israeli a—kissers — isn't winning, he wants to cry like a little baby, and take his ball and go home like a spoiled child,” Uygur argued.

“Good, leave. No one will miss you,” Uygur continued. “We won't lose a single vote over your temper tantrum. In fact, keeping corrupt, establishment Democrats like Carville only hurts the party.”

"The Young Turks" host insisted his party would gain more votes if it “jettisoned the corporate PAC and [American Israel Public Affairs Committee] loving Democrats who continually lose to Trump, and still have the audacity to pretend they know what they're doing.”

Piker has faced heavy criticism and media scrutiny for his rhetoric, including his defense of socialism and communism.

In 2025, Piker told comedian Hasan Minhaj on his podcast that socialism “is redefining and reorienting the classist politics that we currently have away from the capital-owning class, owning both the means of production and virtually every facet of power and redistributing it in a democratic fashion back to the largest class, the working class.”

Asked how socialism differs from communism, Piker said communism is “supposed to be the end stage.”

“It's like the final goal. It's like the final evolution, a stateless, moneyless, classless society. A borderless society. We've never really had communism,” the Twitch streamer claimed. “I know people will just jokingly sometimes say, ‘Real communism has never been tried.’ But that literally has never existed.”

Piker said he doesn’t care when people call him a communist, since he thinks that’s “pretty cool.”

“It's ‘Star Trek.’ It's the ‘Star Trek’ universe. They have a moneyless society. I feel as though that is definitely an honorable end goal to reach where we have all of our needs met,” Piker said.

Influencers like Piker have also prompted HBO host Bill Maher, who considers himself a classical liberal, to warn against the rising support for communism among younger democratic socialists within the Democratic Party.

During a segment on last week's episode of “Real Time with Bill Maher,” the host framed the communist trend as an internal “raging fire festival” within the Democratic Party.

“Donald Trump has told 1 trillion lies, but when he says the Democratic Socialists of America are actually communist, that's not one of them. And it's not hard to prove it, just by quoting the DSA and their candidates,” Maher said.
