John Mark McMillan's New Album on Death Lands No. 1 on iTunes
It’s not just about death for Christian artist, John Mark McMillan, it is the transition to death centered in his second label album, Economy, landing him on the No. 1 spot on the iTunes Christian chart after one day since it's release Nov. 1.
Unlike his 2010 release The Medicine which solely focused on the themes of death and resurrection, Economy, takes on a psychological and spiritual approach between life on earth and life after death.
The theme of the album is highlighted in the song titled “Seen A Darkness.” The lyrics read:
The valley of the shadow knows our name/We have seen a night, but we have seen the day/Dressed in the blood of love’s hot veins…born into the grave, but born a second time/ We’ve been born again…On someone else’s dime.
“The first time someone hears the album you can walk away with the feeling that they experience something real,” McMillan guaranteed in a short video interview.
He also explained that the basis of the album comes out of personal encounters with darkness such as the passing of friends, divorces, and miscarriages, all unfortunate events that drive him to confess that although it “kind of crushed [us] but not destroyed [us]”
Economy, also placed the writer of anthem song “How He Loves Us” in the No. 17 slot of overall mainstream music, a rare for a Christian artist.
John Mark McMillan is currently on tour with Grammy-nominated David Crowder Band and Chris August across the U.S.
