'Lizzie McGuire' Star Daniel Escobar Dies at 49

The actor who played teacher Mr. Escobar on the hit Disney show "Lizze McGuire" has passed away due to complications from diabetes.

Escobar was 49 years old when he died. He passed away this past Friday in a Los Angeles Hostpital, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In addition to his work on the Disney series, Escobar acted in many theatrical productions, including the Woolly Mammoth's production of She Stoops to Comedy in 2007, according to DC Theater Scene. The director of that production, Howard Shalwitz, spoke about Danny's life in an interview with DC Theater Scene.

"As an actor Danny was very funny and could easily make audiences laugh. But it was unquestionably his depth of emotion that set him apart. Danny found a way to personalize every role and bring whatever struggles he was facing in real life onto the stage. He could shift from hilarious to heart-breaking in the blink of an eye," he said.

"In his best roles, like that of an aging HIV-positive man in She Stoops to Comedy, he had the qualities of a sad clown, and I literally saw him make audiences weep night after night. I had the privilege of directing Danny five times, and there's no one who brought more intelligence, discipline, joy, and raw emotional power to his work," the director added.

Escobar's former "Lizze McGuire" costar Adam Lamberg tweeted a message of condolence.

"I am deeply saddened to hear about Daniel Escobar passing. He was a kindhearted, generous person. Rest in Peace," Adam Lamburg wrote via his Twitter account.
