Las Conchas Fire Satellite Images

NASA satellites were able to capture the New Mexico fire closing in on the small town of Los Alamos from outer space.

NASA's Terra and Aqua satellites snapped images of the Las Conchas fire, which has burned more than 80,000 acres so far and has extended itself dangerously close to land near Los Alamos in the north-central part of New Mexico.

Take a look at the images below.

A crew member aboard the International Space Station, flying at an altitude of approximately 235 statute miles on June 27, 2011, exposed this still photograph of a major fire in the Jemez Mountains of the Santa Fe National Forest in north-central New Mexico near Los Alamos.

NASA's Terra satellite flew over New Mexico and captured this image that shows the smoke and heat (in red) from the Las Conchas fire near Los Alamos. The smoke from the nearby Pacheco fire (east) is also somewhat visible in the image.
