Memphis Grizzlies Injury News: Brandan Wright Opts for Surgery on Injured Knee
Memphis Grizzlies is down with another man with backup center Brandan Wright opting to have surgery on his injured right knee. The team said that he is expected to miss at least six weeks in the hope of getting back in full health next year.
The 28-year-old American signed a multi-year deal with Memphis in the summer but hasn't really played that much yet after injuring his knee against the Utah Jazz in early November. But before he went down, he produced 6.6 points, along with 3.4 rebounds for a Grizzlies team that has not lived up to high expectations coming into the season.
The veteran NBA campaigner was drafted by the Charlotte Bobcats as the eighth overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft. However, he didn't play a single game for Michael Jordan's team since he was immediately traded to the Golden State Warriors on draft day. Before landing the multi-year contract with the Grizzlies, he had stints with the Nets, Suns, and Mavericks.
In their loss to Utah last November, he was pulled out of the game in the first half after feeling some pain on his knee; which then prompted the team's medical staff to give him something. However, he eventually went to the locker room after halftime, where doctors confirmed he had a sore right knee. A week after the incident, he underwent MRI, but both he and the team couldn't provide any details about the results.
On the Brink
In a related team update, the Grizzlies front office might finally be looking at a new direction and this season is a sign that they need to. They're currently sixth in the Western Conference with a record of 14-13, but it looks like all isn't well in Memphis. Perhaps there will be some player movement expected in the coming weeks or months, but several rumors say that head coach Dave Joerger might be on the way out.
