Motorola Droid Razr Release Date: Device to Launch in November

Verizon will launch the Motorola Droid Razr on Nov. 11, according to an announcement made by the carrier.

Customers began reserving the self-proclaimed “worlds thinnest smartphone” at the end of October. Verizon will start selling the Droid Razr at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11.

Analysts expect the device to upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich shortly after the software is launched on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

The Galaxy Nexus will also be exclusively released on Verizon, but it will only stay that way for a short period.

The Droid Razr should retail at $299.99 alongside a two-year contract under Verizon because that is the going rate for LTE smartphones on the carrier. The prices for an off-contract version of the Droid Razr have not been announced.

The smartphone goes on sale at Verizon Wireless retail stores and at Droid’s official website. Verizon is the only cellphone carrier to sell the Droid Razr in the United States.

The Droid Razr comes packed with several intriguing features, such as a dual-core 1.2-GHz processor, 4.3-inch Super AMOLED advanced qHD display, 8-megapixel rear camera with 1080p video recording, HD front-facing camera, and a mobile hotspot support for up to eight Wi-Fi.

The device is measured at a thin 7.1mm thickness.

Motorola's smartphone will launch with Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread. Other reports stated Verizon might upgrade the device to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in early 2012.

NFL Mobile application will be offered free of charge to 4G LTE customers who buy the smartphone.

Sascha Segan, a PCMag mobile analyst, said the Droid Razr is “one of those phones that feels even better in the hand than it does in pictures."

Segan also said the Razr's screen is "still very handle-able, just because it's so darn thin."
