NBC Hiring Howard Stern an 'Act of Desperation?'
NBC’s decision to feature shock jock radio personality Howard Stern on “America’s Best Dance Crew” is part of another agenda, according to the Parents Television Council.
The PTC told E! News that NBC was working on getting clearance to use previously prohibited profanity on national television, which is why Stern was brought onto the show.
"Not coincidentally, in just over three weeks the network will be standing before the United States Supreme Court arguing for the right to use the F-word at any time of the day, even in front of children," PTC president Tim Winter told E! News.
The organization has called the network’s move desperate.
“In an act of desperation for a flailing network, NBC has hired Howard Stern – a performer who is synonymous with shock, profanity and obscenity – as a judge on a prime-time talent competition," Winter stated.
However Stern, who is replacing Piers Morgan as a judge, said he could make meaningful contributions to the show.
"I would be an excellent judge. After all, I’ve had a 35 year career,” Stern said in a statement. "I would be good because I would mentor and show people the way."
Paul Telegdy, an executive from NBC, released a statement speaking about the relevance of Stern appearing on “America’s Best Dance Crew.”
"Howard Stern's larger-than-life personality will bring a thrilling new dynamic to America’s Got Talent starting this summer," Telegdy said. "He's a proven innovator and his track record in broadcasting is truly remarkable. Howard is very passionate about this show and is fully committed to its future success."
Still, the PTC told The Christian Post that they would be “contacting NBC and putting advertisers on notice to be mindful of the content they'll be associating themselves with."
Stern did not seem too concerned with the backlash he was receiving, and even tweeted about an early controversy that he would begin on the show.
“Just called in to Piers Morgan,” Stern tweeted. “He suggests I throw contestants in a vat of sulfuric acid."
