New Book Encourages Mothers to Learn from their Children

The author of a new book released earlier this year is hoping the devotional will help mothers look at their children and the things they do a bit differently.

Lessons from the Littlest: A Devotional for Mothers of Young Children is the first published book written by Christian author, freelance writer and speaker Cherise Bopape, who over the years has been involved in various facets of women's ministry.

"I tend to make things complicated," Bopape admits. "By mimicking the innocence and faith of a child we please God. Through spilled milk, poop-filled diapers, and a slew of Little League games or cheerleading practices we can still praise God, be thankful, and give service with a smile. I had to learn this the hard way."

In the late 1990s, actor Bill Cosby hosted the television show "Kids Say the Darndest Things," based on Art Linkletter's classic comedy show segment. Each episode highlighted just how funny, revealing and embarrassingly truthful children can be.

"Yes, children have a wonderful way of making us laugh," promoters of Bopape's book acknowledge.

"At the same time they have a unique knack for unintentionally cheering us up, teaching and inspiring us."

Through the 31 readings contained in Lessons from the Littlest, the author encourages mothers to become aware of the godly lessons that they can glean from everyday interactions with their young children. The book is filled with true-life stories from her own experiences raising three small children, sharing how her children so often prompted her to stop, reflect on God's goodness, or see life a bit differently. Each devotional ends with a challenge for either personal reflection or service.

With the book, mothers "can find something to take into their day while learning to see their little ones in a whole new light," the book's promoters say.

Currently, Bopape serves as an assistant coordinator for a ministry that serves single mothers and teaches Sunday school to first second graders.

As someone who cares about women living under stressful circumstances, Bopape has spent portions of her life encouraging single mothers, providing hope for physically abused women, and inspiring moms with young children.
