Nexus 6 vs. Moto X 2014: Which Motorola Handset is Better?

The smartphone race is still on and as the holiday season draws near, choices will be harder as customers will have to choose among a large roster of handsets from different manufacturers. Even harder is choosing two different handsets from the same manufacturers like the Nexus 6 and the Moto X 2014.

While both handsets are definitely made by Motorola, the Nexus 6 is a collaborative effort with Google to deliver the purest Android experience while the Moto X 2014 – also known as the Moto X2 or Moto X+1 – is an iteration of an already exisiting Moto X from 2012.

To begin, the Nexus 6. The handset sports a 5.96-inch AMOLED touchscreen with a QHD display resolution of 2560 x 1440. Inside is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset with a quad-core 2.7GHz processor and an Adreno 420 GPU.

There are two storage options, the 32GB and the 64GB variants both with 3GB of RAM. Neither have microSD card support, however. It also has a 13-megapixel rear facing camera and a 2-megapixel front facing camera. Also, out of the box, the Nexus 6 already comes equipped with the latest Android Lollipop.

The Moto X 2014 on the other hand has a 5.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen with a full HD display resolution of 1920 x 1080. Inside is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset with a quad-core 2.5GHz processor and an Adreno 330 GPU.

There are also two storage options, 16GB and 32GB variants both with 2GB of RAM. However, much like the Nexus 6, the handset doesn't support microSD cards. Camera-wise, it also has the same 13-megapixel rear facing snapper and a 2-megapixel front facing one. While currently running on Android 4.4.4 Kitkat, the phone is slated for an Android Lollipop upgrade soon.
