'Pokémon Sun & Moon' News, Updates: Registration for Kanto X Alola Regional Rumble Starts Today

Holding online competitions for "Pokémon Sun" and "Moon" is one effective way to keep players invested in the game and remain on their toes while they face off against players around the world. As such, a new competition is dawning, with an incentive that every hardcore trainer can't refuse.

Over at the Pokémon Global Link website, information about the upcoming Kanto X Alola Regional Rumble has been detailed. It will be employing a singles battles format, but unlike previous competitions, it allows the use of Pokémon originating from the Kanto region, those that come from the digital versions of "Pokémon Red," "Blue" and "Yellow." This opens up more options for players, and that will be interesting to see.

Which Pokémon can players expect in the coming singles match? Aside from the popular choices Garchomp, Tapu Lele, Tapu Koko, Mimikyu and Cloyster, one can argue that the upcoming competition may feature a lot of players using the Kanto starters, namely Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise. With mega stones banned, however, it will be tricky how to use them with their base abilities, though that will be something worth observing.

With Kanto Pokémon being included in the fray, players can more or less expect the legendary bird trio Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres with their hidden abilities. Another formidable enemy is Sheer Force Nidoking, increasing the attack power of any of its moves in exchange of secondary effects. When holding a Life Orb which won't decrease its health due to Sheer Force, it is one fearsome sweeper.

As a prize for fighting in at least three battles, players will get the Pidgeotite and Steelixite, allowing Pidgeot and Steelix to mega evolve.

The signups for Kanto X Alola Regional Rumble starts today, March 9, until March 16, 2017. The actual competition will be from March 17 through March 19, in which players will get 15 battle chances per day.
