Kyle Dyer was reporting on the reunion between the dog and his owner, Michael Robinson, and firefighter Tyler Sugaski, who saved the pet named Gladiator Maximus. However, things took a horrible turn when Dyer began petting Max, which resulted in her being bitten in the face by the Argentine mastiff dog (as seen in the video below).

Firefighters, paramedics and animal control experts came to the Denver news station after the attack, according to KUSA-TV. Patti Dennis, KUSA's news director, said the station's injured reporter had to undergo reconstructive surgery on her lip.

"The dog bite accident that happened today at 9News was unfortunate and certainly not expected based on what we knew about the dog and his owner," Dennis wrote on the KUSA Facebook page. "Our goal was to unite the owner with the rescuer for a nice segment. We are all thinking of Kyle and her recovery."

However, Max's owner may be under fire for failing to give his dog mandated vaccinations. The Denver Environmental Health department said 39-year-old Robinson of Lakewood could be in trouble for not leashing his dog, his attack on Dyer and for failing to vaccinate the pet.

Robinson initially lost Max in the Lakewood lake after taking the dog for a walk without a leash on Tuesday. The dog chased a coyote out of a bush, and ended up in the lake.

Despite the dog's attack on the TV news anchor, the firefighter who rescued Max did not have any issues helping the animal.

"The dog recognized right off that I was there to help, so he came towards me," said Sugaski, who rescued the pet after breaking the ice from the lake with his arms.

Still the director of Denver Animal Care and Control,Doug Kelley, said Max will be quarantined at the Denver Animal Shelter for 10 days until he and his owner can be re-evaluated, according to KUSA reports.
