Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe Rumors: Tension Arise Among 'Outlander' Actors and MacKenzie Mauzy?

Though "Outlander" actors Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe have repeatedly made it clear that they never dated, rumors about them having a romantic relationship off-screen just will not stop emerging. This time, reports are starting to involve Heughan's girlfriend MacKenzie Mauzy.

"Outlander" is a fantasy drama that mainly features the main protagonists' ability to travel through time across various countries and eras. Heughan plays the role of Jamie Fraser, a warrior in Scotland in 1743 – a time in the past which Balfe's character, Claire Randall, was suddenly transported to.

Jamie and Claire both have the ability to travel through time and find themselves falling in love with one another. The complication is that in Claire's real life, she is already married to Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies).

Fans of "Outlander" know that the series features several steamy romantic scenes between the characters of Balfe and Heughan. Their very convincing portrayal since the show started in 2014 is probably the reason why reports do not stop insisting that the actors are dating or have developed a mutual interest for one another.

It is important to note though that last month, Heughan was spotted with "Forever" actor MacKenzie Mauzy, which prompted reports to confirm that the two are in a relationship. However, more recently, another report surfaced, claiming that Mauzy's closeness actually caused Balfe and Heughan to break up.

Another report echoed that Mauzy caused the supposed break-up of the "Outlander" lead stars and added that it forced Balfe to decide to leave the show after season 3.

Through the years, Balfe and Heughan have been the subject of dating rumors taking their closeness on and off camera as factors to consider in these assumptions. However, the actors have repeatedly denied the allegations.

In a previous interview with Entertainment Weekly, Balfe candidly said that she has grown tired in addressing the issue. She added: "This is fantasy. This is our job. We are very different in our private life. We are best friends. From the moment we met, we got along. Sam is one of the most generous people you'll ever meet. Such a great guy, no ego involved."

On the other hand, Heughan tackled the issue with a joke saying, "I think I'm just waiting for the moment that she's had too much whiskey and then we'll agree to it."
