'Sandman' Movie News: Faithful to Material

While the adaptation of "Sandman" is not expected to release anytime soon, Joseph Gordon-Levitt confirms that it is currently being worked on.

It was previously reported that Joseph Gordon-Levitt will be taking the Neil Gaiman comic books series into the big screen. The script will be written by Gordon-Levitt, David Goyer, and Neil Gaiman. Gordon-Levitt said, "We've been doing our meetings at the DC office, which is a frickin rad place to work. Also just had a great conversation last week with David and Mr. Gaiman. Neil has been extremely big hearted with me, and he's the one I want to please most."

Accordign to Movie News Guide, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is having a hard time turning the "Sandman" comics, which is 7 years worth, into a film. He explained that the development for the upcoming project is slow but steady since the material involved is complicated. With that, he asked for patience from fans as he develops the film further.

The film will be filled with action, while still avoiding the typical guns and punching stereotypes. Gordon-Levitt explained that the "Sandman" series is better as a film than a TV series because it will let the characters of the story take form better.

He plans to remain faithful to the material by Gaiman stating that they will take some concept straight out of the comics. However, he did not share any details on which volume the film will be focused on. There are no news even on the casting of the film.

As of now, he and his team are remaining quiet about the upcoming film. According to Deadline, Goyer stated, "I hesitate to definitively say when it might go before the cameras, but the one thing different between other iterations and ours is that Neil Gaiman has been in the room with us and is a vital part of the team. We have a draft Warners is very happy with and we're moving forward, knock on wood."
