Satanists Perform Ritual on Grave of Dead Mom of Westboro Baptist Church Founder to Make Her Gay

The Satanic Temple has confirmed that it recently performed a "Pink Mass" ritual on the grave of the mother of Westboro Baptist Church founder Fred Phelps Jr. to make her spirit gay and threatened to "gay" more of his dead relatives if his church continues picketing funerals or praise terrorist actions.

"The Satanic Temple now believes that Fred Phelps must believe that his mother is now gay, in the afterlife, due to our Pink Mass… And nobody can challenge our right to our beliefs," said Satanic Temple spokesman Lucien Greaves, who also performed the ceremony in a release.

The New York City-based group is also trying to raise $15,000 on indiegogo in the next 19 days to adopt a highway where they hope to promote their temple while keeping the road clean.

"The idea for the Pink Mass ceremony and website came during the aftermath of the tragic Boston Marathon bombings, during which time the WBC were threatening to protest the funerals of the bombing victims," Greaves said. Greaves performed the ritual while two same-sex couples celebrated their homosexuality on the gravesite of Phelps Jr.'s mother, Catherine Idalette Johnston.

"Members of The Satanic Temple were in Boston, waiting for them, but they failed to show. Later, the WBC issued a statement that they had been present 'in spirit'. We decided that a same-sex couple celebrating ceremony at the grave-site of Fred Phelps's mother was an appropriate way to meet the Westboro Baptists, 'in spirit', but this time on our terms."

Greaves told Vice that he could only disclose that the ceremony involved recited scriptures, lit candles and a ceremonial proceeding but said he might reveal the full recipe of the act on their website "if the Pink Mass generates sufficient interest to the point that other responsible parties, respectful of the graveyard, wish to perform their own."

Greaves noted in the Vice report that while they haven't decided to perform Pink Masses on any other dead relatives of Phelps Jr., they won't hesitate to invoke the ritual if his church continues with their picketing.

"We haven't gayed Fred's father yet, or his great-aunt, Irene Jordan, who raised him after his mother died. We will perform Pink Masses for each of them, and more descendants of the Phelps, each time they picket funerals or applaud horrific terrorist actions, as they are known to do. Fred himself is getting pretty long in the tooth, and I hope to be presiding over his Pink Mass before long," said Greaves.
