Serbia Observes Day of Mourning for Victims with Prayer Services and Liturgies

PRISTINA, Serbia-Montenegro - Patriarch Palve - the head of the Servbian Orthodox Church, along with thousands of other priests in Serbia-Montenegro, marked this Sunday, March 21, 2004 as a day of mourning for the victims of the recent riots in Kosovo, with liturgies and pray services.

"God sees and hears everything,” said Palve. "Let us pray that for our children and the children of tomorrow, there will be more peace, freedom and blessings than there have been in the difficult times we now endure."

Since last Tuesday when the violence erupted, 28 Serbs were killed and 3800 were left homeless by Albanian extremists. The mostly Muslim Albanians also burned down two-dozen Serbian churches during their streak of violence.
