'Spider-Man' Reboot News, Update: Sony and Marvel in Early Talks With 'Vacation' Writing Duo
A new production development for the upcoming reboot project of Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures' fan-favorite superhero franchise, "Spider-Man," indicated the addition of two comedy writers to pen the script.
Deadline.com said that "Vacation" writer-directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein "are being set right now" to write the upcoming Spidey film, which will now star Tom Holland as the titular hero in his high-school teenage years. Jon Watts will direct.
The duo was among the names included in the shortlist for the directorial gig of the project.
Peter Parker's web-slinging alter ego is renowned for his sense of humor and confidence in exchanging sarcastic lines with his foes and allies alike. Perhaps the inclusion of Daley and Goldstein is part of Marvel and Sony's to continue the action-packed comedic trend for the MCU movies.
Although "Vacation" was their first directorial job, both writers have a long history of screenwriting collaborations, including that of "Horrible Bosses 2" and "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone," which starred comedian Steve Carell.
It remains to be seen how the two will mesh in with Watts, whose last two films, "Cop Car" and "Clown," are stiffer in their tone.
Spider-Man will first appear next year in "Captain America: Civil War" in which he joins a host of MCU superheroes. His upcoming standalone movie, on the other hand, is scheduled for release on July 28, 2017.
