Street Pastors Take Back the Night
"We're patrolling the streets from ten till four o'clock in the morning, sharing the love of Jesus."
London, England -- Pastors took the gospel message to the streets, in an effort to reach those entangled in gangs, drugs, guns and violence, Nov. 19. Part of an ecumenical initiative involving 35 churches and organizations, the “street pastors” who already operate in London, said the same message must be preached in other parts of England.
"We are aiming at how we can prevent young men in particular from picking up the gun, picking up drugs,” said Pastor Les Isaac of the Ascension Trust.
Isaac often leads a team that patrols the streets of Hackney and Brixton until early morning.
"We're patrolling the streets from ten till four o'clock in the morning, sharing the love of Jesus, but also talking about education and training,” added Isaac.
According to Isaac, the pastors not only spread the gospel during their patrols, they inform the youngsters of job opportunities, sports and other activities available to them across the city.
The initiative, which began in Kingston Jamaica, is eyeing Manchester, England as its next target.
