'The Flash' Cast News, Update: 'Insurgent' Actor Joins Season 2 as Wally West

With the time continuum already opened and altered, the CW's hit superhero drama TV series "The Flash" thrown in yet another famous speedster from the DC universe into the mix for season 2.

According to the casting report from Entertainment Weekly, "Insurgent" actor Keiynan Lonsdale will be joining the series as Wally West.

"Just like when we met Grant [Gustin] for the first time, we instantly knew Keiynan embodied all the heart and courage of a hero," executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said in a statement. "We are so excited to be bringing this much-beloved character onto the show."

The character, who is also known as the Kid Flash, is Iris West's nephew in the comics. He later took up the mantle from Barry Allen (Gustin) after the latter went missing in action.

It remains to be seen how the show will introduce the young West, but as reported earlier, The CW's Iris (Candice Patton) will meet her mother. This would eventually explain the complicated familial link between the Central City characters.

Of course, Wally West won't be the only speed force user who is coming to the city. At the San Diego Comic-Con, it was revealed that the original speedster, Jay Garrick, will be arriving to "warn Barry Allen and his team of an impending danger that he alone cannot hope to stop."

The character will be headlined by actor Teddy Sears who appeared on several occasions for "Master of Sex" and "Raising the Bar."

"It is so exciting, as we rush into season two, that we finally get to bring the Crimson Comet to life. We couldn't imagine anyone more suited to play the original Flash than Teddy," says Kreisberg.

"The Flash" Season 2 premieres Oct. 6 on the CW.
